God didn't need another angel.

 

"God must have needed another angel."

This phrase hurt to hear every time and the encouraging truth is this: it simply is not true. 

God doesn't "need" anything. He is sufficient. He wasn't sitting far off in heaven, unable to act without another heartbreaking death. Jesus already did that for us––one and for all. 

Yes, God is sovereign over all. He holds every life in His hands. But He isn't petty. 

Humans were created in the image of God. We were adopted as sons and daughters, co-heirs with Christ. 

What a promise. What a gift. This truth is far more encouraging to me than the original statement.
